Thanks for the Music

By Pastor Mark McAdow
One of the great blessings of Christmas is getting to hear and sing all the great traditional Christmas carols. They add to this wonderful season of joy – especially the carols of our faith like Joy to the World, Silent Night and O Come All Ye Faithful. Music truly is the language of the soul and brings people together across all cultures.

We’ve been blessed for the last 11 years to have Chuck Belknap provide inspiring accompaniment for our Willow View Choir and our worship services. His offertory music often has our people clapping their hands and tapping their feet. So, when Chuck came in two weeks ago and told me he had taken a new position, I was appreciative and sad.

He will be playing for St Francis Xavier Catholic Church downtown for all of their weekend worship services. Chuck loves the Catholic Mass and has wanted to play there if the opportunity was presented. I asked him who he might suggest filling his position here. He suggested his beloved bride, Linda! She plays for Garland Road Baptist Church at 10:45 a.m. on Sundays, so she could be available for our 9 a.m. worship. I was thrilled with the suggestion. As I told Chuck, she’s much cuter than him.

Our SPRC Chair Irene Clem and I met with Linda and made the offer last week. Chuck’s last Sunday to play for us is this Sunday, as he accompanies our choir in their Christmas musical presentation, “Messiah: Heaven’s Glory.”  Linda will begin the following Sunday, Dec. 22. So, we’re simply exchanging one Belknap for another. Linda hopes we may be able to share our Fifth Sunday Sings with Garland Road Baptist, too. God is good!

Please express your appreciation to Chuck for his ministry among us and pray for him as he embarks on a new avenue of ministry, too. Life is all about change. Jesus is in the business of changing each of our lives. After all, that’s why he came: “I have come that you might have life and have it more abundantly!” -John 10:10. Emmanuel – God is with us.

Looking forward to being with you this Sunday morning. Have a blessed weekend.

Yours in Christ,
Pastor Mark

Thanks again to all who have turned in your 2025 commitment cards. You should be receiving a personal thank you note from me this week. Bless you!
