Do you remember what déjà vu means? It means “a feeling of having already experienced the present situation.” I had that feeling today as I thought about reminding you how quick the year is passing! January 2024 is in the books! We’re already on Day 23 of our 50 Day Challenge to “Be Transformed” over these 7 weeks as well. The calendar tells me this next Wednesday is Valentine’s Day and Ash Wednesday too! How can that be?
My very first Valentine’s Day with you at Willow View was on Feb. 14, 2018 which was also on Ash Wednesday! It hadn’t happened since 1945 and I wasn’t yet around to experience that one. But here it is again! Next Wednesday is Valentine’s Day and Ash Wednesday too! Do we give a box of chocolates the day before and consume them all on Mardi Gras- “Fat Tuesday?” The next time Valentine’s Day and Ash Wednesday converge is in 2029. After that, it won’t happen again in the entire 21st Century! This is a significant day!
We will meet next Wednesday morning and evening for our Be Transformed Study. We will conclude about 25 minutes early in the evening, so we can begin our Ash Wednesday service at 7:00PM and conclude by 7:30PM. We will sing some traditional songs and focus our attention on the Season of Lent and the cross of Jesus Christ. Our Youth Pastor Scott Heusel and I will offer the sign of the cross at the end of the service with the ashes from last year’s Palm Sunday palm branches. It’s a symbol of our mortality and our commitment to follow Jesus to the cross over the next forty days. Lent begins on Ash Wednesday and concludes on Easter Sunday, which is March 31, 2024- that’s next month!
I hope you and your family will be able to join us for this special worship opportunity this Wednesday February 14 at 7:00PM! Happy Valentine’s Day and Ash Wednesday too!
Yours in Christ’s love,
Pastor Mark
PS – Our annual greeter/usher training is this Sunday, Feb. 11, at 1:00PM in the parlor immediately following the baked potato luncheon sponsored by our Scout pack and troops. This brief training is for all current volunteers and anyone who wants to serve this year. Hopefully that includes you.
