This past week, 18 Willow View youth and I spent the week at summer camp (Camp Canyon) near Clinton, OK. We had the most amazing time learning about the “I Am” statements Jesus made during His time here on earth.
One of the days, we focused on the story about Jesus telling the hungry crowds that He was the “Bread of Life.” In this particular story, He was teaching His followers that He alone was their true source of spiritual life, both in the present world and in the everlasting life to come. The Bread of Life that Jesus represents never perishes, spoils or runs out.
This statement came after feeding 5,000 men and all of the women and children. After feeding them, Jesus and the disciples left for the other side of the Sea of Galilee. When the crowd realized that Jesus was gone, they started looking for Him because they wanted to see another miracle. Jesus then told them that if they truly understood, they wouldn’t be seeking more food or another miracle. Instead, they should be simply seeking Jesus.
We were created by God to be in relationship with God. Deep within each and every one of us is a need for that relationship that can only be filled by Jesus. When we hunger and thirst for Jesus – above everything else in life – that desire in us is filled.
That doesn’t mean it will always be easy or we will always get exactly what we want. What is does mean, however, is that if we want Jesus more than anything else in life, He will always be with us to help us through everything else. We are to hunger for Him, and in doing so, we will find that only Jesus can truly fill what is missing in our lives.
Do you have a hunger for God’s Word or for Jesus in your life? After spending an entire week with more than 60 junior high and senior high students from all over the state of Oklahoma – including 18 youth from Willow View Church – I can tell you without a doubt in my mind, we have an amazing group of young people who have a deep desire to follow Jesus.
I want to say "THANK YOU" for all those who helped make this experience possible for myself and our youth.
God bess you real good!
