Today is a special day, May Day. It’s also the National Day of Prayer, which is always held on the first Thursday in May. I hope many of you can “Stop and Pray” with us today at noon at the downtown Garfield County Courthouse gazebo. Several local leaders will lead us in prayer, and we’ll conclude by praying for them too. Please plan to join us from 12 to 12:45 p.m. downtown if you can.
It’s one of my favorite events of the year – rain or shine. After all, we’ve certainly had our prayers answered for rain in Oklahoma this past week. Praise the Lord!
Stop and Pray. It is an encouragement I offer to you when you are facing challenging days. The Lord loves to hear from His children and is eager to answer your cries for help. The Holy Spirit is our helper, counselor, comforter and friend. He is as close as your next breath. As I shared at 11 a.m. worship last Sunday, the twofold Easter blessing from Jesus is “peace be with you” and “receive the Holy Spirit” found in John 20:21-22. He loves you and is here for you. His promise is always true, “I will never leave you or forsake you” -Hebrews 13:5.
I just received a challenging phone call. I stopped and prayed with the caller and then prayed again after the call. I urge you to pray with people when they share a deep concern with you. Don’t just promise to pray – stop and pray. It will be encouragement to them and a blessing to you. If you don’t know what to pray, simply ask the Lord to show you. He will.
Last Sunday, a Willow View member and friend lost her cell phone. She and another friend were searching for it in the sanctuary, so I joined in and then asked, “Did you stop and pray?” Though I’m sure they were praying, we all stopped, and I prayed specifically that we would find her phone and asked for it to be soon. I then had an impression it might be on the floorboard of her car. She had already looked there, but I walked with her to her car and looked. It was not under her feet, so I asked her to open the back door. I got down on my knees and found it under her seat! Praise God! It was on the floorboard after all. Just luck? I don’t think so! You never know what the Lord might do if you simply “stop and pray.”
Can join us at noon as we pray for the United States of America and our key leaders. America doesn’t have a prayer if American Christians fail to pray. God bless you today!
Yours in Christ,
Pastor Mark
I can’t wait to worship our Lord together today at noon and this Sunday at Willow View, too! Come check out our brand new Willow View memorial bench under our Bradford pear tree.
