Today’s the day! Today my 5-year-old granddaughter Lennyx begins her first day in kindergarten in Edmond! Her Aunt Lo and our daughter Lauren begin her 5th year of teaching at Will Rogers Elementary in Stillwater. She’s a fourth-grade teacher. Many of you have kids back in school this week and many of our teachers are “back in the saddle,” too.
A new school year brings excitement, enthusiasm, adventure and fear, too. What’s it going to be like? Will I be able to do the work? Will I have any new friends? Or old bullies? Will my teacher like me? Will others like my clothing selection and shoes? So many emotions as the new school year begins. I must admit, I loved the summers but always enjoyed getting back to school and seeing friends. The school schedule helps order your world.
I shared a few weeks ago that Sundays help order my world. I must believe that was the Lord’s intent when He included No. 4, “Remember the Sabbath Day and keep it holy,” in The Big Ten! When Robin and I were traveling last month, we missed worship two Sundays in a row and it threw off our weeks. It just didn’t feel right to be away from worship and genuine Christian fellowship. Hebrews 10:24-25, “And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another – and all the more as you see the Day approaching” – the day of Christ’s return! We need each other in the body of Christ!
It's Back to School and Back to Sunday School and Discipleship Communities once again! Have you drifted away this summer? It’s time to get back! Who keeps believers out of church? Satan and his lies about what is most valuable. He knows how critically important it is to your spiritual health and growth! Quit listening to The Liar and fall more in love with Jesus and His family once again. You’ll be glad you did!
What a blessing it was to share breakfast together as we “promoted” several students last Sunday and recognized Zoe Walker’s contributions to our kids this summer! It was also my special joy to present eight Willow View third graders a copy of their own Bible last Sunday in Worship! Looking forward to seeing you and yours this Sunday!
Yours in Christ’s love,
Pastor Mark
