Did you know that Christmas is only 161 days away?
Have you started your Christmas shopping yet? Sent out your wish list to your family? Taken family photos for your Christmas cards? Put up your Christmas tree?
Just kidding!
You probably think that I am crazy asking you these questions in the middle of July, but I want to share something exciting that will be happening this fall at Willow View Church. For many years we have collected shoeboxes for Samaritan's Purse Operation Christmas Child. This year we have taken it to a new level by becoming a drop-off location for Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes.
Why am I talking about it now? Well, planning is already under way, and we will need volunteers to help with this weeklong collection event from November 17-24, which is typically a very busy time of the year.
I will be doing some training in the coming weeks, and we will have more information to come about collection times and days and what all we will need volunteers to do to help. I am asking you to think and pray about how you could help this year. Whether it be packing a shoebox or two, volunteering, or praying for this wonderful ministry and the children, it will have an impact.
Also, as summer comes to a close and back-to-school supplies start taking over the shelves, it is a great time to catch some sales on fun summer toys, flip flops, pencils, markers, etc. that would go great in those shoeboxes.
If you answered “yes” to those questions above, you are way ahead of me. I am more of a procrastinator, and you can usually find me on Christmas Eve eve trying to get my shopping done!
