What is Operation Christmas Child? It is not only a fun green-and-red shoebox that you get to fill with pens, notebooks, toys, hygiene items and other things, but it is also an opportunity to gift a child that has never heard of Jesus an opportunity to have the Gospel of Jesus Christ shared with them in their language. Another opportunity given is a 12-lesson discipleship study called "The Greatest Journey" where they get to learn how to follow Christ and share Him with others.
There is also a $10 suggested donation that covers the cost of shipping the box across the country and also goes toward the program materials used for each child to receive the discipleship materials.
Operation Christmas Child packing and collection season is approaching quickly! Willow View Church has been active in packing shoeboxes for many years, and the church has done a great job in supporting this great mission outreach. Last year the church stepped up even more as we were a Drop-Off Location and were able to receive, count, box and deliver 49 cartons filled with 743 shoeboxes to the Central Dropoff in El Reno. What a blessing and a true testament of God's faithfulness as these boxes blessed so many people across the world!
We also are once again a Drop-Off Location and have opportunities for people to volunteer during National Collection Week, which is Nov. 16-23. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact me at the church office to sign up.
Something new this year is an Operation Christmas Child Packing Party on Wednesday, Nov. 18, from 6 to 7:15 p.m. in the Family Life Center for the whole church to participate. We will have a soup and salad dinner in the Family Life Center and pack our shoeboxes and enjoy some Christian fellowship with our Willow View family.
Ms. Mandie is coordinating donation items for the kids and will have an area set up for the kids to team up with the youth to pack boxes. The adults are asked to bring their items that they will use to pack their boxes and join in the packing fun. Once we have all shoeboxes filled, we will gather to pray over these boxes. Last year the Willow View family filled 181 shoeboxes, and we have set a goal of 220 shoeboxes to fill this year.
I hope everyone will find a way to be part of this great ministry and help spread Jesus' love across the world through prayer, filling shoeboxes and/or volunteering.
Prayers and blessings,
Emily Moody
