Sing to the Lord

By Pastor Mark McAdow
Last Sunday we continued our series on "The Character of a Genuine Christian" using the Navigator’s Wheel. (Didn’t we have a wonderful time worshipping together and sharing in a fun and delicious “tailgate” lunch last Sunday! Thanks to Cade Nickeson for cooking the pulled pork and Evelyn and our Congregational Care Team for hosting us. So glad so many of you were able to stay and share in the fun.) The Navigators in a well-known International ministry of discipleship headquartered in beautiful Colorado Springs, CO, adjacent to the amazing Garden of the Gods. The metal art piece on display in front of our church fireplace came from there.

Jesus Christ is the hub of the wheel. He is central in each of our lives as Savior and Lord! Four spokes come from the hub. The first vertical spoke is God’s Word. We shared how we can “get a handle on The Word” by hearing, reading, studying, memorizing and meditating on it every day. It is our owner’s manual for the genuine Christian life. The absolute best way to get it in you is by using as many “senses” as you can in the process. I know a lot of Scripture simply because I learned a Scripture song along the way.

I often sing simple Scripture songs to my grandkids while I’m pushing them on a swing or driving in the car. I’ll sing “This is the Day” or “I will enter His gates with Thanksgiving in my heart” or the all-time favorite “Jesus loves Me.” I want each of them to hear and internalize God’s Word in their heart as well. It’s good for me and great for them!

How often do you “sing to the Lord?” Even if you’re not a good singer, the Bible says to “make a joyful noise to the Lord.” That’s my motivation. Robin is the true singer in the family, but I do the best I can. Singing lifts our spirits and reaffirms our faith. Singing Scripture is a significant use of your time. I’ve mentioned before a great resource Robin and I learned about a year ago: www.TheWorshipInitiative. It’s a morning musical devotional that encourages you to worship the Lord by singing along. I’d encourage you to check it out!

Looking forward to growing in our love for Jesus this Sunday as we look at the next “spoke” in the wheel!

Love you,
Pastor Mark

PS: Our youth had a fun time playing mini golf at 4RKids last Sunday evening. I ended up with the best score after I “introduced” the concept of a “mulligan!” Blessings.
