On Ash Wednesday March 5, we received the mark of the cross in ashes on our foreheads. It signaled the 40-day season of Lent that focused on the Passion, Death and Resurrection of our beloved Lord Jesus Christ on Easter Sunday! This year, it also marked the opportunity for us to give a sacrificial gift to our Willow View “Pave It Forward” campaign to replace aging, cracked blacktop with concrete and to support global missions at a brand-new level with a tithe of the proceeds. Our Trustees led by Lynn Merz outlined a 100-day Project to raise $100, 000 from our faithful members and friends. Letters were sent to everyone, and I’ve sent a personal Thank You note to everyone who has made a donation- no matter the size. Thank you all who have made a sacrificial gift!
Next Thursday is our 100th Day! We’re about halfway to our original goal. We’ve sought to inform you with monthly updates from Lynn and a update in your March giving statements from me. I never want to badger you, but simply to inform you. I did ask prayerfully for 100% participation- my guestimate is we’re at about 37% (65 our of 175 individuals/families) to date. Have you given specifically to this project? Are you willing to? Have you asked the Lord what He would have you give? As your Pastor, that’s all I ask you to do.
This Sunday is Pentecost Sunday! The wonderful day the Lord Jesus poured out His Holy Spirit on His brand-new Church! It’s our birthday as Christian believers which the prophet Joel prophesied hundreds of years before, “I will pour out my Spirit on all people…Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days.”(Joel 2:28-29). The Lord loves to pour blessings on His children! The greatest blessing is Himself.
As you prayerfully consider a special offering this week to our Pave It Forward Project; I pray the Lord will be honored and you will be blessed! If you haven’t given yet- now is the time. If you can give a “second mile” gift; it would be appreciated and celebrated! Since Ash Wednesday, God has blessed us through our ALPHA Class and our Confirmation Class for our teens. We have baptized five people, added five new members with a few more to come, given $1000 to Global Methodist Missions, $250 in support of our Missionary Ben West to Malaysia and over $500 to a Cuban Church Baptism Retreat to name a few! God is good! We really are blessed to be a blessing!
Looking forward to seeing you this Pentecost Sunday! If you’re able, where the colors of “Holy Spirit” fire- red, orange, yellow and even red-hot blue! (Sounds like Thunder colors too)! Love and appreciate each of you!
In His love,
Pastor Mark
PS: Our Mission Team is also sponsoring a block party tonight, Thursday, June 5, at Christ UMC at the corner of Randolph and Cleveland from 6 to 8 p.m. to bless their neighborhood and encourage their church. Come join the fun!
