Our own Bruce Nixon was on the front page of the Enid News & Eagle — along with our own Jesse Dershem (OBI Director) — celebrating his 700th donation last week. Wow!
I’ve given 22 gallons of blood over the years, but that doesn’t come close to what Bruce has done! He donates platelets, which is more time-consuming, but also you can give much more frequently. Thanks to Julia’s beloved husband for his donations. Bruce and Julia also celebrated 53 years of marriage together on Sept. 30!
I’ve always believed it was important to give blood, if you’re physically able. Since Robin and I married, she’s given more than 10 gallons! It usually takes less than an hour and helps up to three people. This Sunday we will be hosting a blood drive at Willow View. I hope you will consider taking some time out to bless people with “the gift of life.”
Jesus was the ultimate blood donor. He gave his blood for each of us — not simply a donation but all that He had to give. The Bible tells us that life is in the blood. Leviticus 17:11 says, “For the life of a creature is in the blood, and I have given it to you to make atonement for yourselves on the altar; it is the blood that makes atonement for one’s life.” A blood sacrifice was required to atone for sin. Yom Kippur – The Day of Atonement – is today.
Aren’t you blessed to know Jesus died – once for all – to atone for our sins? Only a pure, spotless, sinless sacrifice could satisfy the wrath of a pure and holy God, and He did! We can be forgiven and set free from our “sin full” life because of the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. We now can be “living sacrifices” for Him (Romans 12:1).
If you can donate a pint of blood this Sunday, I hope you will. It’s World Communion Sunday, when we celebrate with Christians literally around the world, the sacrifice of our Lord Jesus Christ at His table.
Love you,
Pastor Mark
Men’s First Friday Breakfast is at Wee Too at 7 a.m, tomorrow, Friday. Hope to see our Willow View men and guests there, too. Blessings.
