True North

By Pastor Mark McAdow
As a Boy Scout, one of the skills required at the time was to master the skill of using a compass. This was many years before GPS was a reality. A compass is a small handheld device – devoid of electronics – that one can use to find direction using settings of north, south, east, west and degreed measurements. It could point you in the right direction once you identified true north. "True North" will always point you in the right direction!

This next week, June 23-26, is Vacation Bible School week at Willow View. Our theme is True North. Jesus is our True North. When we are in a right relationship with Him, all things fall into place. If any other priority takes the place of Jesus Christ, we’re headed for danger.

This is our “new” Children’s Director Mandie Williams' first VBS at Willow View. Please keep her and her wonderful team of volunteers (servants of Christ!) in prayer. Let’s support them every way we can through prayer, active participation of our children and grandchildren and being present to lend a hand where necessary. You may want to invite other children you know to join us as well. We want VBS to always be an outreach to those who may not know Jesus yet. Jesus said, “Let the little children come!”

Last night at our Prayer Gathering we prayed for each registered child and family by name. We believe in prayer and invest in prayer as the Willow View family. As I like to remind us, prayer is our relationship with Jesus Christ. He’s always praying for us! “He is able to save completely those who come to God through him because he always lives to intercede (actively pray) for them.”- Hebrews 7:25.

Our Vacation Bible School begins this Monday evening, June 23, and runs through Thursday evening, June 26, from 6 to 8 p.m. each evening. The theme features Alaskan critters, games, Bible stories, science experiments, Scripture, music, snacks, and lots of fun. No luggage required on this Alaskan adventure!

We had an exciting time honoring our dads last Sunday in Worship and gifting them with Dad’s root beer and bags of popcorn, too. My favorite moment was when I invited our dads forward for prayer at the altar, which I’ve done the last eight years as your pastor. It’s always a special blessing to see dads kneeling in prayer together. This year, Mandie suggested we let the children stay in the service to see their dads and to place their hands on their Dad or Granddad’s back in prayer. It was very meaningful. In the 11:00 service, my 6-year-old granddaughter Lennyx put her hand on my arm as I prayed. It doesn’t get better than that!

See you this Sunday! Remember, it’s our Christian Sabbath and sets the direction for the upcoming week as we focus on our True North – Jesus!

Yours in Christ’s love,
Pastor Mark
