That quote by Pastor Mark Batterson has been on our marquee for over a week. I believe it with all my heart. We put it on our marquee before Israel and the United States launched attacks against the leadership of Iran last Saturday morning, killing many of their nation’s leaders.
What should our response be to such actions? Thoughtful and soul-searching prayer, as I sought to do last Sunday, by asking the Lord to protect the innocent in Israel, Iran and America, too. No one wants war. We know the words of Jesus when He said, “Blessed are the peacemakers for they will be called sons of God.” – Matthew 5:9. Peace is the ultimate goal – peace with God and one another.
And yet, the writer of Ecclesiastes wrote in Ecc. 3:8: “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven, ‘a time to love and a time to hate, a time for war and a time for peace.’” Sometimes war is inevitable to promote real peace. Still yet, Romans 12:18 says, “If possible, so far as it depends on you, live in peace with all people.” Peace is the goal but not peace at all costs.
Though I personally have no desire for the United States to be the police keeper of the world, I appreciate our support for the nation of Israel against our joint enemies – in this case the world’s largest supporter of Islamic terrorism who has declared “Death to Israel and Death to America” as their intended and ultimate goal. Our conflict is not with the people of Iran but their leadership. It’s always too early to quit praying!
Please pray for our active military and their families in this time of uncertainty and for divine protection of innocent life. We don’t know what the immediate future holds, but we do know who holds the future! Our future is secure because “The Lord is near.”- Phils 4:5.
Praying with you for our world!
Love you,
Pastor Mark
