Viewer Discretion Advised

By Pastor Mark McAdow
When we see that phrase at the beginning of a TV program or movie, we know it is a warning to be aware of scenes or images that may be disturbing. They usually deal with language, sexuality, substance abuse, violence or strong thematic issues like child trafficking, abuse or suicide.

Although I make it a personal practice not to watch R-rated movies, I’ve made a few exceptions, especially when it came to The Passion of The Christ by Mel Gibson. It was aptly rated R for the violence against our Lord Jesus Christ. It was extremely difficult to watch the brutality, but we know it was biblically accurate. People suffer for Christ every day in this world.

Why do I mention this today? This Wednesday evening, we are hosting a “sneak peek” of a brand-new movie in The Chosen series. We’ve been selected to show it before it comes to theaters (in towns that have one!) and before it goes to Amazon Prime. It’s Episode 1 of Season 6.

The Chosen is a worldwide phenomenon regarding the life of Jesus Christ. It is written from a Jewish perspective – after all, Jesus was and is one of The Chosen People. We, too, are “chosen” now because of Jesus’ death and resurrection for all people groups. “You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit – fruit that will last,” Jesus said in John 15:16.

The Chosen is based on Scripture and features the disciples as real people with real problems. Plan now to come and see this feature presentation this Wednesday from 6 to 7:15 p.m. in our Sanctuary. It’s for our Willow View Youth (we will gather at 5:40 p.m. for a snack supper) and adults, too. Roots to Wings Children’s activities will go on as usual in the Family Life Center with Miss Mandie and her team.

Remember this Sunday, Oct. 4, is World Communion Sunday. We will have one combined worship service at 10 a.m. with a tailgate themed picnic lunch following in the Family Life Center at 11:30. Come join the fun and wear your favorite team colors if you like I’ll be the one in blue!

Love you,
Pastor Mark

PS: Our Willow View Men’s Breakfast is this Saturday, Oct 3, at 8 a.m. in the Family Life Center this month. Enjoy a great meal and great brotherhood, too!
