Happy, Happy Birthday

By Pastor Mark McAdow
Happy Birthday, Willow View! Our church was born on May 26, 1902. That means we’re now 123 years young.

As I was having my quiet time this morning, I noted in my journal that on this day three years ago we celebrated our 120th anniversary in grand style. It was a most special Sunday – several of you were here to celebrate it with us. Kitty King and her most competent and faithful committee provided an incredibly special celebration indeed.

Do you remember? We invited our former pastor and wife Mike and Karen Jared back to bring The Word, and we had a special proclamation by Mayor George Pankonin declaring Sunday May 22, 2022, as “Willow View UMC Appreciation Day in celebration of 120 year of fruitful ministry in Enid."

We began as the First United Brethren Church of Enid, and now we’re Enid’s only Global Methodist Church. We shared a wonderful dinner together and had personalized words of appreciation via video from Governor Kevin Stitt. We commissioned our Willow View steel art structure painted bright red to celebrate the fire of the Holy Spirit and to give new attention to our church entrance. We also took a church photo and had other mementos of the special occasion. We have a rich history and an amazing future as we pursue Jesus with our whole hearts!

Though Robin and I missed it – thanks to American Airlines canceled flights – we had a wonderful Confirmation Sunday last week as Pastor Scott baptized two students by immersion – Aubri Steinert and Cale Benham – and six Willow View students were confirmed. We look forward to welcoming them into full membership in the next few weeks. Our Heartland Annual Conference begins this Wednesday in Claremore, OK. Pastor Scott, Bill Shaw and Robin and I will be present representing Willow View, returning home on Saturday – by car!

It’s a joy to serve Jesus with you in our Willow View family. To God be the glory! Looking forward to seeing my favorite people this Memorial Day Sunday.

In His love,
Pastor Mark

P.S.: Thanks again to Evert and Gayle Walton for providing our new Willow View memorial bench and new flower pots, too. Thanks to Debbie Hodges for all the beautiful flowers.
