What’s your favorite hamburger in town? I’m a Lotta Burger or Lenox fan myself. Of course, there are many other options with Flamingo’s, Freddy’s, Braums, Whataburger, McDonalds, and Burger King to name a few.
Have you seen the new Burger King commercial? We used to hear a familiar, light-hearted jingle years ago in their commercials, “Have it Your Way!” That was supposed to conjure up thoughts of being “especially” special. Burger King hit the skids for an exceptionally long time and now has “recreated” themselves with a brand-new motto. They fired their creepy plastic-faced king and declared, “There’s a new King and it’s you!” You Rule! Sounds appealing, right?
Well, the jury is out to see if Americans claim their new “hamburger royalty,” but their theology stinks! Telling people they are the "King" only “feeds” their ego and not their soul. We know there is only one king and it’s not us. It’s King Jesus!
"Wait a minute pastor, aren't you taking this a little too far? It’s just a commercial."
Maybe or maybe not. I believe most of us want to be our own king. We desire to be “large and in charge!” But that’s not reality. We are neither. We are created by God to know, love and serve Him. Remember what Jesus said, “I came not to be served but to serve,” in Mark 10:45. The rest of the verse continues ”and to give His life as a ransom for many.” Our King came to give His life for each of us. No, we’re not kings but subjects of the King of Kings!
Hungry for a good hamburger? Choose wisely, but remember the real crown goes to the real King – He alone is worthy! We want to “Have it His Way; His Will!”
Looking forward to worshiping our King with you this Sunday!
Love you,
Pastor Mark
